The records comprise a general correspondence file, 1931-64, a correspondence file relating primarily to district and village matters, 1939-55, outgoing letters, 1942-63, a register of letters received, 1949-58 and 1961, and copies of regulations and orders issued by the Government of American Samoa, 1938-61. Also included are police investigative casefiles, 1932-62; police station logbooks, 1957 and 1962; daily record of prisoners, expenditures for prision mess, and arrest records, 1935-51; copies of immigration and emigration, 1937-65; copies of proceedings, correspondence, and other records of various boards and commissions, 1941-59; records documenting prices received for copra and showing prices paid to producers and names of contractors, 1908-48; and copies of personnel records, 1900-1963.

The Alaska Public Works Program was authorized during the 81st Congress through the Alaska Public Works Act, Public Law 264. The Act authorized the General Services Administration to construct public works in Alaska, at a total cost of $70 million, then to sell them to the Territory of Alaska or other public bodies in Alaska at a purchase price that would recover approximately 50% of the total estimated cost.
